Awards

The EAPF is an award-winning pension fund with accolades in areas such as investment and governance.

We won 3 awards in 2025 for our leadership in Responsible Investment and Natural Capital. In all cases, the judges praised our industry-leading target to allocate 4% of assets to protecting and enhancing nature, and the 18% of assets we’ve already invested in climate solutions.

Natural Capital Strategy

In September we won the Natural Capital award at the IPE Real Assets Infrastructure & Natural Capital Global Conference & Awards 2025 in Rotterdam. The judges praised our approach, stating:

“The Environment Agency Pension Fund sets a benchmark for the industry with a pioneering natural capital strategy that is both ambitious and rigorously grounded in science and governance.”

Sustainability Strategy (Climate)

In October, we received the Sustainability Strategy (Climate) award at the Local Authority Pension Fund Awards. The judges commended our “forward-thinking, innovative work” in developing our sustainable investment strategy.

Impact Integration

The third award we received this year was for Impact Integration which we received at the Pensions for Purpose Awards in November. The long-term success of our investments depends on both environmental and social sustainability. This award recognises the work we have done to fully integrate consideration of climate, nature, and local communities into our investment strategy.

2024

We won 4 awards in 2024 showing that we’re a recognised leader in Responsible Investment and Natural capital.

European Pension Fund of the Year

In December 2024, we won 2 awards at the Investment & Pensions Europe (IPE) Awards: European Pension Fund of the Year and Best UK Pension Fund. A judge on the awards panel said, “With challenging emission goals and the creation of a new investment category for natural capital, EAPF identifies itself with the background and specific knowledge of its members in a smart way. A true example for other funds to follow.”

Natural Capital and Real Assets & Infrastructure Investor of the Year

We also accepted 2 awards at a European Pensions Conference in September 2024 for Natural Capital and Real Assets & Infrastructure Investor of the Year. 16 judges selected the EAPF as the leader in this space noting, "EAPF has strategically integrated natural capital as a core asset class within its investment portfolio, demonstrating a pioneering approach in environmental and sustainable investment."

2023

In February 2023, EAPF won 2 awards at the ‘Pensions for Purpose’ awards.

The Paris Aligned Award for Best Climate Governance and Strategy Statement - the judges commented that the EAPF is "Setting the standard on how improvements year on year can progress on this key issue." They added "their member survey results were shared and there was an up front, clear summary of the policy using an excellent ‘policy in a nutshell’ framework.  There was also a good explanation of net zero, Paris alignment and the role of fossil fuels, and a clear summary of targets".

The Impact Investing Adopter Award - the judges said the EAPF was "selected as the winner because of the integration across their work, their pragmatic approach and compelling impact case studies – particularly in emerging markets".

2022

Best Climate Change Strategy

In March 2022, we won the Local Authority Pension Fund (LAPF) awards for the Best Climate Change Strategy.

It’s great to be recognised for all the work that’s gone into this area, and shows that as a fund we’re considering our impact on the planet in all we do.

2020

Best Pension Fund in the United Kingdom’ Award at the IPE Awards

In December 2020, the Environment Agency Pension Fund won ‘The Best Pension Fund in the United Kingdom’ Award at the IPE Awards 2020. IPE is Europe’s premier Pensions website.

The judges commented: "This fund should be applauded, with strong performance figures backed by a proactive, efficient and innovative response to the pandemic, whilst keeping focus on environment, social and governance issues and the views of its members."

But we didn’t stop there. We also won the ‘Best approach to Sustainable Investment’ at the LAPF awards. (LAPF Investments is the magazine for local authority pension investment specialists).

All this in the year when, for the second time running, we were recognised by the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) as a global leader on responsible investment.
