A Chair has been appointed for the Brunel Pension Partnership
The South West Pension Funds have appointed Denise Le Gal as Independent Chair of Brunel Pension Partnership Limited.
Denise who hails from Canada has a background that straddles both the financial sector and local government. This included being Vice President of Chase Manhattan Bank, North America 1988 to 1993. Denise has been a leading councillor at Surrey County Council for eight years and for that period has been the Chair of the Surrey Pension Fund, a £3.9 billion Fund. Denise has extensive experience of leading boards and committees, including being a Trustee Director of JP Morgan Chase UK Retirement Plan. Denise also holds several national Pension roles, including: Chair of the Local Government Pension Committee (LGPC), Vice-Chair of the Local Authority Pension Fund Forum (LAPFF) and is a LGPS Scheme Advisory Board (SAB) Member.
One of the first tasks for Denise will be to begin the recruitment of Brunel’s senior management team and Non-Executive Directors. The 10 South West organisations which make up the partnership, Avon, Buckinghamshire, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Environment Agency, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Somerset, and Wiltshire pension funds will nominate one shareholder representative to the Board, alongside the two independent Non-Executive Directors.
John Beesley, Leader of Bournemouth Unitary Council and Chair of the Dorset Pension Fund who has been chairing the Funds Shadow Operations Board, said “Denise brings significant experience of both the private and public sector investment and pensions industry. Her knowledge, enthusiasm and will to succeed will be a tremendous asset in shaping the Brunel Company.”
Denise said “I am delighted to be given this chance at the start of the company’s journey to shape it into one of the best pools, and I am excited at working with the 10 funds to deliver real efficiencies and improved returns to their half a million members”.
